poem for my fave place to rip it up

Filed under: kiteboarding — crossshore @ 2:48 pm

My wind vane points east, the flag is flying straight
Coco nut fronds dance in the breeze
Time to bail to unleash the beast
Pack the car my sons stashed my keys
Tides coming up
Sweaty palms and a sore lower back (getting old feeling young)
Set up to ride
I’m off like a prom dress the wind whispering through the casuarinas trees
It’s cross shore
I’ the only one out
That’s ok I ride for me , not to impress others
The sound of water slurping under my board
the wind steady out of the east 18 to 20 whistles through my kite lines
As I set up for my first jump
Power in my hand weight and will against the kites mass
Power transmitted through the kites fabric causing lift
WAHOOOOOOOOO I can fly
At that moment of love nothing seems to exist except for here and now
It’s a selfish sport (my wife says)
I love to ride the wind and it has consumed me but I am just one of many.
A growing cult of wind worshipers.
The wind has no face just direction and strength
No wars will be won or lost over the wind
Just personal triumphs
Take nothing but photos leave nothing but wake.

Spanish Wells Kiting Adventure Kiteboard on shallow water flats in Spanish Wells, Bahamas. Travel two hours from Nassau aboard a fast ferry to Spanish Wells, a vibrant fishing village in the northern Bahamas where you will spend a week in a quaint wooden cottage outfitted with all the mod cons in the heart of town. Your adventure includes 20 hours (5 days) of kiteboard instruction or assisted riding.

Spend your down time exploring Spanish Wells by golf cart or take a water ferry to Eleuthera and visit Preachers Cave, a large cave where shipwrecked settlers spent their first weeks in the Bahamas. Spend the morning of your last day in Harbour Island (20 minutes away) enjoying its gourmet restaurants, high end shopping and famous pink sand beach. Enjoy top of the line kiteboarding gear and expert instruction and gain a real understanding of the local area with your local guide.

In Spanish Wells the beaches are long and deserted with miles of shallow water ideal for beginners or those looking for the perfect picturesque ride. With fresh seafood in abundance, celebrate a fabulous day of kiteboarding BBQing spiny lobster in the backyard or sit back and watch the world go by from the porch as you savor a cold beer. This is a great trip for groups of friends looking for a unique adventure or the family looking for an exciting bonding experience. Groups of four required to book.
